Initial Probe Reveals IED Used in Journalist's Assassination in Mukalla

Security authorities in Yemen's eastern Hadramout province announced on Thursday that initial investigations into the assassination of journalist Mohammed Aidah, a correspondent for Al Arabiya and Al Hadath channels, indicate the use of a homemade explosive device detonated remotely. The blast, which occurred in the city of Mukalla, resulted in Aidah's death from injuries sustained in the attack.

The General Administration of Security and Police for the Hadramout coast stated that specialized agencies have initiated comprehensive investigations to uncover the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible. Forensic teams, criminal investigators, and explosives experts conducted thorough field and technical examinations at the incident site.

According to the preliminary findings, the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted beneath the driver's seat of the vehicle. The device was detonated remotely while the journalist was inside the car.

Security authorities reported that investigators have collected several pieces of technical evidence and clues from the blast site, which are currently undergoing analysis. Legal proceedings are being completed as part of ongoing efforts to identify the perpetrators and those involved in planning the crime.

The security administration emphasized that investigations are proceeding intensely, with progress being made in tracing leads. All available security, technical, and military resources have been mobilized to apprehend the culprits and uncover the entities behind the operation.

The leadership of security and police in the Hadramout coast condemned the attack, describing it as a "heinous crime" and a serious assault on the security and stability of the community. They also offered condolences to the family of the deceased journalist and his colleagues in the media industry.

Authorities reiterated that security and military agencies are continuing joint efforts to pursue those responsible for the attack, vowing to bring them to justice without delay once investigations and legal procedures are finalized.
