United Kingdom Condemns Houthi Escalation in Taiz, Warns of Humanitarian Impact
The United Kingdom has issued a strong condemnation of the recent military escalation by Houthi militias in Taiz, warning that the surge in hostilities poses a severe threat to civilian lives and risks exacerbating the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
Stephen Doughty, the British Minister for the Middle East, stated that the violence perpetrated by the Houthi forces is reigniting conflict, leading to civilian casualties and the displacement of additional families. In a statement disseminated by the UK Mission to Yemen via social media, Doughty emphasized that such actions are significantly worsening the already dire humanitarian conditions across the country.
The British official reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s unwavering support for the internationally recognized Yemeni government. He underscored the nation's commitment to facilitating a comprehensive and lasting peace process aimed at concluding a conflict that has caused immense suffering for millions of Yemenis.
Doughty cautioned that the persistent military escalation undermines prospects for a political settlement. He urged all parties to cease hostilities immediately to allow for diplomatic efforts to prevail, emphasizing that prioritizing peace is essential to alleviating the plight of the civilian population.
