Over 3,700 Civilians Flee Yemen for Djibouti Amid Escalating Conflict

The International Organization for Migration has reported that more than 3,700 individuals have fled Yemen by sea to Djibouti in recent weeks, as persistent hostilities and a deteriorating humanitarian crisis compel civilians to seek safety elsewhere.

According to the organization, the majority of those undertaking the perilous sea voyage are women and children. The ongoing conflict has intensified, forcing an increasing number of non-combatants to abandon their homes in search of refuge from the escalating violence and the collapse of essential living conditions within conflict-affected regions.

The surge in maritime departures occurs as humanitarian needs for displaced populations and those remaining in conflict zones reach critical levels. Families continue to flee active combat areas, navigating high-risk routes in hopes of reaching more stable environments across the Gulf of Aden.

The migration trend from Yemen toward the Horn of Africa reflects the deepening instability within the country. Humanitarian agencies remain concerned, noting that families face severe hardships and significant physical risks during their transit, further highlighting the urgent need for sustained international support for those displaced by the protracted war.
