Houthi Mortar Attack Kills Two Civilians and Injures Six in Southern Taiz

A mortar shell fired by Houthi militia struck a residential home in the Al-Shaqab area of Sabr Al-Mawadim district, south of Taiz, resulting in the deaths of a child and a woman while leaving six other civilians injured.

According to human rights sources, the victims were identified as 14-year-old Mohammed Abdullah Abdo Muqbel and 35-year-old Thikrayat Abdulwahid Ahmed Yahya. The attack, which took place on Friday, caused significant casualties among the local population, further exacerbating the humanitarian toll in the region.

The six injured civilians sustained varying degrees of wounds and were treated following the incident. Local reports indicate that the shelling of populated areas remains a frequent occurrence, consistently claiming the lives of non-combatants, particularly women and children.

This attack is part of a broader pattern of violence in Taiz, where ongoing hostilities continue to threaten the safety of residents. Despite international calls for de-escalation, the continued targeting of civilian infrastructure underscores the persistent security challenges facing the province.
